YEREVAN, December 17, /ARKA/. The newly elected mayor of Yerevan, Karen Karapetian, said today he was not going to dismiss the personnel of the city municipality. He was elected mayor by the Council of Elders in which the ruling Republican Party holds majority replacing former mayor Gagik Beglarian who was forced to step down last week after reportedly beating up Aram Kandayan, an official at the presidential administration’s protocol unit.
Karen Karapetian, who was CEO of Armenian-Russian natural gas operator ArmRosGazprom, was nominated December 16 evening by president Serzh Sargsyan, who is head of the party’s governing board.
Speaking to journalists Karapetian said although he will not sack people but will enforce rules of game and a set of requirements mandatory for all and those who will not comply will be asked to leave.
Yesterday president Sargsyan suggested several changes in the government. Particularly, economy minister Nerses Yeritsian will be replaced by minister of finance Tigran Davtian. Davtian in turn will be replaced by Vache Gabrielian, a deputy governor of Central Bank. Vazgen Khachikian, head of the Pension Fund, was sacked today. -0-
