Armenia Recognizes Libya’s National Interim Council

Official Yerevan has recognized Libya’s national interim council, Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tigran Balayan said on Friday.
YEREVAN, September 5. /ARKA/. Official Yerevan has recognized Libya’s national interim council, Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tigran Balayan said on Friday.
He said that the ministry had sent its note through Libya’s embassy in Paris.
Uprising broke out in Libya in February and later escalated into a civil war. Libyan insurgents established a transitional national committee on February 27.
Fifty-nine countries, Including the United States, have recognized Gaddafi’s regime illegitimate, and Libya’s National Transitional Council’s rule legitimate.
On March 17, the United Nations Security Council approved a resolution authorizing a no-fly zone over Libya. NATO headed the campaign against Libya.
On August 22, NATO-backed insurgents seized a major part of Tripoli. A day later, they took the last stronghold of Gaddafi’s troops, Bab al-Azizia with the ruler’s residence. After that, the national council announced victory.
Russia recognized Libya’s ruling interim council as the country’s legitimate authority on Thursday. –0--
