Armenian President Congratulates Russian Leaders Over United Russia Victory In Duma Elections

Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan has sent a congratulatory message today to Russian president Dmitry Medvedev and prime minister Vladimir Putin in connection with United Russia party’s victory in the December 4 parliamentary elections.

Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan has sent a congratulatory message today to Russian president Dmitry Medvedev and prime minister Vladimir Putin in connection with United Russia party’s victory in the December 4 parliamentary elections, Sargsyan’s press service reported.
"The victory in the elections was clear evidence of the leading role of the United Russia in the socio-political life of Russia. It has again demonstrated the support of the friendly people of Russia for the policy conducted by you which is aimed at strengthening of the state and the rule of law, establishment of a new quality of life for citizens,’ Serzh Sargsyan’s letter to Medvedev says.
The president of Armenia expressed confidence that the election results will further improve the level of strategic allied partnership between Russia and Armenia, expand and strengthen the centuries-old friendship and good neighborly relations between the countries for the benefit of both peoples and countries, ensure stability and security in South Caucasus.
In a separate message to Putin president Sargsyan stressed that the elections were a clear confirmation of the decisive role of the United Russia in the socio-political life of Russia.
"I am convinced that the United Russia will be able to secure further dynamic advancement of the Russian Federation towards the planned socio-economic reforms. Armenians appreciate your attitude towards their country and the Armenian-Russian friendship. I am convinced that we will continue to strengthen the Armenian-Russian strategic partnership for the benefit of our peoples and for stability and security in South Caucasus", the message says.
According to the official data, the United Russia has received 49.54% of votes, the Communist Party - 19.16%, Just Russia" – 13.22%, the Liberal Democratic Party - 11.66%. Other parties failed to surmount the threshold. The United Russia is likely to get 238 mandates in the 450 seat parliament. In the previous parliament it controlled 315 seats. -0-
