INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF COUNTRIES MEMBERS OF NEW NEIGHBORHOOD EUROPEAN POLICY OPENED IN BRUSSELS
YEREVAN, September 3. /ARKA/. EU Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and European Neighborhood policy Benita Ferrero-Valdner received the representatives of the countries-members of the New Neighborhood European policy.
Ministers of EU countries and others are also to participate in the conference.
Possibilities of trade liberalization, migration challenges, climate changes and energy safety issues will be discussed during the conference, the press release says.
The conference is to be opened by the Chairman of European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal Louis Amadu and the current leadership of EU.
Benita Ferrero-Valdner said that this policy is “cooperation of equals and it is important that we attentively listen to the opinions of our neighbors”.
“I believe it is time to unite our companions to strengthen the policy and exchange the opinions. We defined a number of spheres where we intend to develop cooperation, particularly on the issues of trade, migration and economy,” the Commissioner said.
On June 14 2004, the EU Council for General Affairs and External Relations made a decision to extend “European Initiative of Neighborhood” over Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The Council called upon the European Commission to submit a report on each country covering the political cooperation, foreign policy and security and considering the progress in political and economic reforms. Individual Action Plan for Armenia was signed on November 14 2006. N.V. –0--
