Newly appointed NKR president makes oath on Constitution and Gospel of 17th century

Newly appointed President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakian has made an oath on the Constitution and Gospel of the 17th century.
YEREVAN, September 7. /ARKA/. Newly appointed President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakian has made an oath on the Constitution and Gospel of the 17th century.

During the inauguration, he said: “Being appointed NKR President, I swear to fulfil all the requirements of the Constitution, respect the human rights and freedom of citizens, to secure the sovereignty and independence of the republic, the country’s territorial integrity and security for the sake of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and the welfare of our people.”

Archbishop of Artsakh’s eparchy of the Armenian Apostolic Church Pargev Martirosian blessed NKR’s President.

The ceremony of the President’s inauguration took place in Karabakh on September 7. Armenia’s delegation headed by RA President Robert Kocharian participated in the ceremony. RA Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian, RA Minister of Defense Michael Harutyunian, MPs Armen Rustamian and Hranush Hakobian, Yerevan’s Mayor Yervand Zakharian, as well as NKR ex-President Arkadi Ghukasian participated in the inauguration ceremony.

Delegations from Abkhazia and South Ossetia were invited to the ceremony.

On the occasion of the NKR President’s inauguration, a concert will be held with the participation of Armenian pop stars in the Renaissance Square in Stepanakert.

The recent presidential election in Karabakh took place on July 19, 2007. According to the NKR Central Electoral Committee, 59,316 people out of 92,128 (85.12% of the electorate) voted for Bako Sahakian.

12.53% of the electorate voted for Sahakian’s main opponent, Masis Mayilian. International observers from Armenia, Russia, Ukraine, USA, France, Italy, Belgium, Macedonia, Serbia, Czech Republic, as well as Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Moldavia conducted monitoring during the presidential election in Karabakh.
