Armenia appoints defense attaché to its mission to the European Union

YEREVAN, March 6. /ARKA/. Armenia's defense attaché to NATO will perform similar functions at the country's mission to the EU and Belgium on a part-time basis, according to a decision made by the government on Thursday.

“Taking into account the essential development of Armenia's cooperation with Belgium and the European Union in the field of defense, security and military issues in recent times, it is planned to appoint and accredit the  defense attaché at Armenia's mission to NATO to serve also as attache to the EU and Belgium,” the government's decision reads.

The decision will enable the Armenian Defense Ministry to effectively interact with the EU, strengthen and develop institutional ties, expand opportunities for military and military-political cooperation with the Union.

According to the document, the support provided to Armenia within the framework of the European Peace Facility, the launch of negotiations on a framework agreement on Armenia's participation in EU crisis management missions, as well as the significant expansion of the security and defense component in the new Armenia-EU partnership agenda have created favorable conditions for the further development of military cooperation.

It is also stated that the launch of military cooperation with Belgium can also play a positive role in the development of Armenia's defense capability and sustainability in the long term.0-
