Armenia has filed a complaint within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) over Russia's restrictions on Armenian products and thinks that the union's existing mechanisms will help remove the existing obstacles, stated RA Deputy Economy Minister Tigran Gasparyan.
YEREVAN, September 8. /ARKA/. Armenia has filed a complaint within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) over Russia's restrictions on Armenian products and hopes that the union's existing mechanisms will help remove the existing obstacles, stated RA Deputy Economy Minister Tigran Gasparyan.
Commenting on contacts with the Russian side and its justification for the restrictions at a briefing on Tuesday, Gasparyan emphasized the importance of leveraging the EAEU's capabilities to resolve the issue.
"Here, not only our contacts with Russia are important, but also our capabilities within the EAEU, as there are specific mechanisms that can be applied to eliminate such obstacles. We are actively using these capabilities. We have filed a complaint and hope, we are confident, that these mechanisms will work to remove the obstacles," the Deputy Minister noted.
Asked whether Armenia considers Russia's claims regarding the quality of Armenian products unfounded, Gasparyan stated that Yerevan believes the restrictions imposed are inconsistent with the agreements and principles of the EAEU.
"In our opinion, the restrictions are inconsistent with the agreements and principles reached within the EAEU. Therefore, we are working to ensure that the EAEU acts in accordance with its principles," Gasparyan said.
According to the deputy minister, Armenia is using the mechanisms provided within the EAEU to restore the violated principles.
Restrictions on the supply of Armenian products to Russia
Since the end of May, Russia has been gradually introducing restrictions on the supply of certain products from Armenia, citing violations of phytosanitary requirements. The restrictions include flowers, mineral water, certain beverages and alcoholic beverages, vegetables, fruits, berries, grapes, potatoes, dried fruits, and later, live fish and fish products, as well as dairy products.
The restrictions also include a ban on the transit of products of Armenian origin through Russian territory to other EAEU countries.
