Armenia and Japan discuss prospects for deepening of relations

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and the visiting Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Minoru Kiuchi discussed on Thursday in Yerevan prospects for further development of cooperation between the two countries.

YEREVAN, January 22. / ARKA /. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and the visiting Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Minoru Kiuchi discussed on Thursday in Yerevan prospects for further development of cooperation between the two countries.
Sargsyan was quoted by his press service as emphasizing the importance of frequent mutual visits saying they strengthen inter-state relations and noted with satisfaction that relations between Armenia and Japan have been developing dynamically in recent years.
Both men said the opening of the Japanese embassy in Armenia on January 1 will greatly contribute to the deepening of Armenian-Japanese friendship and cooperation.
They were said also to have spoken about regional problems and challenges, the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, the centenary of the Armenian Genocide and exchanged views on current international issues.
Sargsyan and Kiuchi stressed also the importance of cooperation between Armenia and Japan in the framework of international organizations, the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations and activate humanitarian and cultural exchanges.
Kiuchi was said to have conveyed the condolences of the Japanese government and his own to the people of Armenia in connection with the killings of a family in the Armenian Gyumri by a Russian soldier.
President Sargsyan thanked the government and people of Japan for the support to Armenia since it became independent and for their willingness and consistency in the deepening of the Armenian-Japanese relations. -0-
