Armenia marks 32nd anniversary of Independence Declaration
YEREVAN, August 23. /ARKA/. In a congratulatory message issued on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the Declaration of Independence (from former Soviet Union) Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says that in fact the independence process has not been completed until today ‘not because we do not have independence, but because independence is like a person’s health that must be taken care daily.’
‘The Declaration of Independence adopted by the Supreme Council of former Soviet Armenia on August 23, 1990, states that the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic begins the process of establishing an independent state. The process that began de jure ended with a referendum on independence on September 21, 1991 and the recognition of the Republic of Armenia by the international community," Pashinyan’s message reads.
"The government fights daily for the independence of the Republic of Armenia. Independence for us is security, however, international structures which are to ensure it "give cracks," and one of the first cracks, unfortunately, was in Nagorno-Karabakh," the message notes.
"Although we have excellent relations with some of our neighbors, our relations with others have not made much progress because they demand too much of us or think we demand too much of them," the message reads.
Pashinyan’s message says that independence is a confrontation, and for the sake of independence and statehood one must have the will to confront one’s history and worldview.
‘Independence is a mindset, a statesmanship, and its absence squanders sovereignty, security, and the future.’
"Independence is freedom, and in our understanding the people have created an independent state to feel free and secure in it. Independence is education, and until every child living in the remotest village has not the same access to education as in the center of the capital, we must feel sad for our future," the message says.
He says also that independence is the rule of law. Independence is work to create, not waste and spoil. -0-
