Chairman of China congratulates Armenian president on re-election

Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao congratulated Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan on re-election, the presidential press service reported.
YEREVAN, February 21. /ARKA/. Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao congratulated Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan on re-election, the presidential press service reported.
Jintao said China is happy that Armenia has maintained political and public stability and made progress in economic development and foreign relations over the last years during Sargsyan’s term in office.
“You made great achievements in the country’s development”, the Chinese leader said.
Jintao also pointed out that stable progress has been recorded in Armenia-Chinese relations since 21 years ago when diplomatic relations were established between the countries.
Armenia and China are good friends and partners. The Chinese side respects the development path chosen by the Armenian people; it attaches importance to bilateral relations and is ready to advance its cooperation with Armenia to a new level, the Chinese leader said.
According to the preliminary ballot count results from 1,988 polling stations across Armenia, incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan won re-election with 861,378 votes or 58.64% Monday. His main opposition challenger Raffi Hovannisian polled 539,674 votes or 36.74%. -0-
