Considerable progress seen in negotiations over Armenia-EU association agreement

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan received Tuesday a delegation of European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, the foreign ministry’s press office reports.

YEREVAN, February 21. /ARKA/. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan received Tuesday a delegation of European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, the foreign ministry’s press office reports.
The delegation’s visit to Yerevan came as part of its regional tour.
The minister and his guests pointed out considerable progress in the negotiations launched in July 2010 to sign an agreement on Armenia-EU Association.
In particular, progress is seen in issues related to political dialogue, reforms, foreign policy, security and justice system.
Nalbandyan and the delegation members stressed importance of European Union’s decision to start negotiations on establishment of comprehensive free trade with Armenia.
It was also said that the substantial preparatory reforms implemented in Armenia have already produced certain results in some areas.
The future agreement will replace the Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation that is in force now.
The minister, voicing satisfaction at the high-level political dialogue between Armenia and European Union, stressed significance of inter-parliamentary relations.
At the committee’s request, Nalbandyan presented the detailed description of the current stage of Karabakh conflict settlement, expressing appreciation of European Unions’ support for the efforts of OSCE Minsk Group that is brokering talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
