YEREVAN, April 19. /ARKA/. European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker, speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), called on Azerbaijan to stop shelling in the Karabakh conflict zone, a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, Samvel Farmanyan writes in his Facebook page.
According to him, in response to a question from the Azerbaijani delegation member, Juncker said: "I can say to Azerbaijan one thing only: stop shelling, stop hostilities.'
In the early hours of April 2 Azerbaijan launched a large-scale offensive involving tanks, artillery and helicopters aiming to seize at least some territory in and around Karabakh. The intense fighting continued from 2 to 5 April.
The NKR defense army successfully suppressed the aggressive actions of the enemy, inflicting heavy losses on its manpower and military hardware forcing Azerbaijan to ask Russia to mediate a ceasefire. -0-
