Foreign Minister: "It feels like Azerbaijan simply doesn't want peace with Armenia"

YEREVAN, April 17. /ARKA/. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, in an interview with a number of Turkish media outlets, suggested that Azerbaijan does not want peace with Armenia.
"Sometimes it seems that Azerbaijan simply does not want to build peace with Armenia. For what reasons? I cannot say, but we are really concerned that they do not want to complete the settlement, do not want to complete the negotiations and sign a peace treaty," Mirzoyan said.
Moreover, the Armenian minister said, new manifestations of tension are regularly observed - both in the rhetoric of the Azerbaijani leadership and in the real development of the situation.
"This, unfortunately, can also lead to escalation "on the ground." For example, if a significant part of the citizens of Armenia thinks that Azerbaijan plans to attack Armenia again, establish control over certain parts of its sovereign territory, and so on. When we manage to clarify the real intentions of Azerbaijan, we will most likely be able to find answers to all the other questions,” Mirzoyan believes.
He recalled that Armenia presented Azerbaijan with a number of proposals on resuming communications, strengthening mutual trust, including mutual verification and arms control. “These were reasonable and realistic proposals. “However, unfortunately, we did not receive any constructive response,” Mirzoyan stated.
