Chaired by prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan a government commission set up to handle and oversee the celebration of Armenia’s 24-th Independence Day, discussed today the current status of a string of relating events.

YEREVAN, July 14. / ARKA /. Chaired by prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan a government commission set up to handle and oversee the celebration of Armenia’s 24-th Independence Day, discussed today the current status of a string of relating events.

The government press service said during an exchange of opinions the heads of ministries and government agencies presented the list of planned activities. 

The prime minister was said to have instructed his subordinates to work out the final list of events and submit it for the commission's approval.

Armenia's Independence Day is celebrated on September 21. On this day in 1991 the Supreme Council of then Soviet Armenia held a referendum on secession from the USSR and establishment of an independent state. 

Some 99% of eligible voters voted for secession. The independence was declared officially on September 23.-0-
