YEREVAN, April 2. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Thursday at a regular government meeting that high-quality elections have been held in Artsakh.
"Their official results show this. Let’s fix that, to end the presidential election in one round, one of the candidates - Araik Harutyunyan, according to preliminary results, did not have several hundred less votes than needed," Pashinyan said.
The prime minister said that this fact in itself is very eloquent and speaks of an unprecedentedly large number of participants in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
In his opinion, the fact that the opposition forces came second and third in the parliamentary elections is convincing as well. “I believe that the further development of democracy in Artsakh is important for a fair resolution of the problem [Karabakh conflict - ed.], and for establishing security and stability in the region, "Pashinyan said.
On March 31, presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Artsakh, with a turnout of 72.7% of the total number of voters.
According to the election results, five political forces have won seats in the Artsakh National Assembly. They are the Free Homeland bloc, the United Homeland party, the Justice party, the ARF Dashnaktsutiun and the Democratic Party of Artsakh.
In the presidential election, none of the candidates won the 50 + 1 votes necessary for victory. For this reason, the second round will be held on April 14, in which the two candidates with the largest number of votes will race for presidency: Araik Harutyunyan (49.6%) and Masis Mayilyan (26.4%). -0---
