ICRC representatives visit two Azerbaijanis in Karabakh prison

Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited two Azerbaijanis - Dilham Askerov and Shahbaz Quliyev, members of an Azerbaijani saboteur group, who are serving prison terms in Nagorno-Karabakh, artsakhpress.am reported.

STEPANAKERT, August 26. / ARKA /. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited two Azerbaijanis - Dilham Askerov and Shahbaz Quliyev, members of an Azerbaijani saboteur group, who are serving prison terms in Nagorno-Karabakh, artsakhpress.am reported.
A press officer for ICRC in Nagorno-Karabakh Eteri Musayelyan said during the August 20 visit, the prisoners were able to share information with their families.
"According to its mandate, the ICRC visits detainees periodically to get acquainted with the conditions of their detention and help them liaise with their families," said Musayelyan.
In 2014 December a court in Nagorno-Karabakh sentenced Askerov to life imprisonment and Quliyev to 22 years in prison. They were convicted of illegal border crossing and arms possession, espionage and kidnapping. Askerov was also found guilty of killing Smbat Tsakanyan, a 17-year-old Armenian resident of the Kelbajar district of Karabakh.
Quliyev and Askerov were captured by Nagorno-Karabakh Armenian security forces in 2014 July in Kelbajar district. Another Azerbaijani, Hasan Hasanov, who crossed into Kelbajar with them, was shot and killed several days later after killing an Armenian army officer and wounding a civilian. -0-
