Opposition parties ignore local government elections: MP says
YEREVAN, August 24. /ARKA/. An Armenian parliament member Hayk Babukhanian, who is chairman of the Constitutional Right Union party, urged opposition parties to more actively nominate candidates for September 9-23 local government elections.

"In the regions the opposition has nominated very few candidates for local government elections. This may be indication that it does not have enough human resources and a support base," he said to a news conference.

According to Babukhanian, this also shows that opposition parties are not interested in local elections «because they do not care about small provincial problems." This, he said, shows that the main goal of opposition parties is to take hold of power, not to address their country fellows’ everyday problems.

According to the Center for Sociological Research Sociometer, the ruling Republican Party has nominated 632 candidates for elections in around 700 urban and rural communities, the Prosperous Armenia has nominated 58 candidates, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation - 27, the Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law) – 12. -0-
