YEREVAN, May 21. /ARKA/. Preparations are underway to open the Russian Consulate General in Kapan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said today in Yerevan.

“We are also interested in the full development of twinning ties between cities, municipalities, between Russian regions and regions of Armenia,” he said at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan .

Announcing the preparation of another inter-regional forum, Lavrov expressed the opinion that it will further consolidate the material foundation that underlies bilateral allied relations, relations of strategic partnership.

Earlier, the Russian government approved an agreement to open a general consulate in the town of Kapan, the administrative center of Syunik province in southern Armenia (bordering Iran and Azerbaijan). The Armenian side also gave its consent.

The Kapan consulate general will become the second consulate general of the Russian Federation in Armenia after the Gyumri consulate general. -0-
