Yerevan is not encouraging emigration from Syria, yet Armenia will patronize every single Syrian Armenian who arrived in Armenia, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at the event on the 87th General Assembly of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Friday.

YEREVAN, October 22/ /ARKA/.
«We will share whatever every Armenian has with them. It is the only way I believe. And when the Armenian General Benevolent Union is a part of the process, then, surely, we will succeed in solving this problem», Sargsyan said.
According to Sargsyan, the AGBU have always had their finger on the pulse of the time - they see the national problems and the
priorities, they reassess their objectives and they come up with new initiatives and timely projects.
Sargsyan stressed that the AGBU is always there where Armenians are in need; this time a coordinating center for the problems that Syrian Armenians encountered has been set up together with Armenian Ministry of Diaspora.
The AGBU was among the first ones who reacted promptly to the grave situation in Syria and provided financial support to Armenians, the President said.
The AGBU is one of the biggest Armenian benevolent organizations. It was founded in Cairo in 1906 initiated by Armenian statesman and politician Poghos Noubar.
AGBU ‘s General Assembly is to be held in Echmiadzin Saturday.
Syrian Armenian community is among most powerful ones, and there were about 100,000 Armenians living in Syria until very recently. The Armenian community plays a substantial role in Syria’s social, political and cultural life. Most of the Syrian Armenians live in Aleppo (more than 80,000 people), Damascus, Latakia and other cities. Because of the aggravation of the political and military situation in the country Armenians started leaving for the historical homeland.-0-
