YEREVAN, January 14. /ARKA/. The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin sent a telegram of congratulations today to Nikol Pashinyan on his appointment as Prime Minister of Armenia, the Kremlin official website reported.
Putin, in particular, noted that relations between Russia and Armenia are based on good traditions of friendship and mutual respect, with both countries having accumulated considerable experience in fruitful cooperation in various fields.
“I hope that our dialogue and constructive joint work will further strengthen Russian-Armenian allied interaction, as well as promote integration processes in the Eurasian space. This undoubtedly meets the interests of our fraternal peoples,” the head of the Russian state emphasized.
Pashinyan, whose My Step bloc celebrated a landslide victory in the December 9 snap parliamentary elections, was appointed today as Prime Minister by President Armen Sarkissian. Speaking in the National Assembly Armen Sarkissian said the election had “endowed this parliament with a high legitimacy.”
Pashinyan was first elected as Prime Minister in May following weeks of peaceful anti-government rallies making Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan to step down. Pashinyan resigned in October to trigger a snap election ‘to bring the velvet revolution to its logical end.” -0-
