YEREVAN, April 25. /ARKA/. The chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, former president and prime minister Serzh Sargsyan asked for a meeting with MPs representing the party’s faction in parliament saying he is forced to again speak publicly, but this time to his party’s MPs.
‘Contrary to my decision not to interfere with political processes after my resignation, I now believe that I must speak again," Sargsyan said in a statement to state-run Armenpress news agency.
He invited the faction members to a meeting in order to explain in detail the reasons that prompted his resignation, to speak also about his vision of the future of the party, the importance of new leadership and the reform of the party to assist in the development of the country.
"I invite you to talk about peace and stability," Sargsyan said.
Thousands of opposition protest leader Nikol Pashinyan’s supporters resumed protests across the Armenian capital Yerevan today morning after negotiations he was to hold with the ruling Republican Party were canceled. According to acting prime minister Karapetyan, he rejected preconditions laid down by Pashinyan. Shortly after the resumption of protests police were deployed in the center of the Armenian capital.
The opposition says after making prime minister Serzh Sargsyan to step down their next goal is to elect a popular prime minister and make the ruling Republican Party that has the majority in the parliament, cede power. -0-
