Tigran Sargsyan nominated by RPA for premier’s post

The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) backed the nomination of the acting premier Tigran Sargsyan for the post of the premier at its Thursday meeting.
YEREVAN, April 19. /ARKA/. The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) backed the nomination of the acting premier Tigran Sargsyan for the post of the premier at its Thursday meeting. The nomination was proposed by president Serzh Sargsyan, vice-speaker of Armenian parliament Eduard Sharmazanov said.
Under the Armenian constitution article 55, reelected president Serzh Sargsyan was sworn in on April 9th and accepted the resignation of the government on the same day.
Under constitutional provisions, the president is to appoint a new premier based on distribution of parliament seats and consultations with parliament factions, within 10 days after accepting the resignation. The new cabinet is formed within 20 days after the appointment of the premier.
Tigran Sargsyan has been the prime-minister of Armenia since April 9, 2008.
Sargsyan was born on January 29, 1960 in Kirovakan (Vanadzor) of Armenia. In 1978-1980, he studied at the Institute of National Economy, Planning and Economy Department, Yerevan. In 1983 Sargsyan graduated from Financial-Economic Institute after N. A. Voznesensky of Leningrad (Soviet Union) with honors diploma. In 1987 he earned a degreed in economy at the same Institute.
Sargsyan was a senior research worker and headed the international economic ties unit at R&D Institute of Economy and Planning in 1987-1990.
Sargsyan chaired the Republican Council of Young Specialists and Scientists in 1988-1993 and coordinated economic reform seminars for banking specialists in 1990-1991.
In 1990-1995 he was member of parliament and head of parliament commission on financial-crediting and fiscal affairs.
In 1995-1998, Sargsyan chaired the Armenian Bankers' Association and headed the Transition Society Institute in 1995-2008.
In 1998 – 2008 he was the chairman of Armenia’s Central Bank. -0-
