US State Department: No comment on Armenia strategic partnership agreement

YEREVAN, January 9. /ARKA/. "There is nothing to consider and nothing to announce at the moment." This was stated by the US State Department in response to a request from the Armenian service of “Voice of America” regarding whether a meeting between official representatives of Armenia and the US is planned soon to elevate bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership, and what documents will be signed between Washington and Yerevan in this regard.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan did not deny that Armenia and the United States would sign a strategic partnership agreement in the coming days. He mentioned that previous Armenian-American agreements foresee the signing of such a document, but did not provide further details. When asked when and where the meeting of official delegations from both countries would take place, Mirzoyan replied: "We can wait a few days to see."
Earlier, information emerged, at the instigation of Arman Babajanyan, leader of the "For the Sake of the Republic" party, that Armenia and the US would sign a document in Washington next week. Babajanyan stated that the agreement would cover several key areas, including security, modernization of defense systems, joint exercises, and regional stability initiatives, which would provide Armenia with tools to protect its sovereignty.
