YEREVAN, May 23. /ARKA/. Armenia’s emergency ministry fined 198 people in Jan-Apr 2014 for nonobservance of fire and technical safety rules, Ashot Mkrtchyan, chief of the ministry's fire and technical safety inspection, said on Friday at a news conference. He said the total amount of these fines is AMD 8.6 million.

«The emergency ministry's fire and technical safety agency is periodically informing all large enterprises about the essential requirements specified in the law, the necessity to comply with them and penalties for nonobservance of the rules,» he said. This information is available on the ministry's website.

Mkrtchyan said fines are quite high – they range from AMD 25,000 to AMD 2 million. «In particular, an AMD 1-million fine is imposed on those operating dangerous facilities, especially  gas stations, without having experts' approval,» he said. «Violation of safety rules poses a direct threat to lives of personnel and clients.»

If the wrongdoer doesn't put things right after the warning, the fine is increased to AMD 2 million.

Mkrtchyan thinks that high fines will force organizations to take fire and technical safety more seriously. -0----
