Statistics: Armenians Preferred To Marry Less And Divorce More In 2010

The number of divorces increased and the number of marriages reduced in 2010 in Armenia, said the Head of Population Census and Demography Department of Armenian National Statistic Service Karine Kuyumjyan on Monday in the press-conference.
YEREVAN, January 31. /ARKA/. The number of divorces increased and the number of marriages reduced in 2010 in Armenia, said the Head of Population Census and Demography Department of Armenian National Statistic Service Karine Kuyumjyan on Monday in the press-conference.

“Over 17.9 thousand marriages were registered in 2010 in Armenia which is by 4.2% less the indicator of 2009… The number of registered divorces was 2.9 thousand which is by 5.9% more the indicator of 2009”, she said.

The indicator of marriages was 5.5 per thousand population which is by 0.3 thousand less than in 2009. The indicator of divorces is 0.5 per thousand population which hasn’t changed compared with 2009.

The age of marrying people increased. In 2010 average the age of fiancés was 29 and girls – 24.9. Some years ago the age of brides was 21 and fiancés – 26 years.

These data refer only to registered marriages. There is no statistics on non-registered marriages yet.
She informed that in all the questionnaires prepared for 2011 the issue of registered or unregistered marriages is included.—0—
