YEREVAN, November 23. /ARKA/. The Armenian government and the UN World Food Program (WFP) will provide food packages to approximately 100,000 primary school students. As the press service of the ministry of education, science, culture and sports of the republic explained, this is due to the fact that school kitchens and canteens remain closed due to the coronavirus.
WFP, in cooperation with the Armenian authorities, has reorganized the School Meals program so that children have the opportunity to receive daily meals at home until school kitchens and canteens are opened and meals are resumed.
WFP will provide healthy food packages to about 50,000 primary school students throughout Armenia through the School Meals program funded by the Russian Federation. In the course of the gradual nationalization of the program, the Armenian government will simultaneously provide additional assistance to about 50,000 schoolchildren.
The ministry of education, science, culture and sports of Armenia and the WFP will provide food packages to schoolchildren during the first half of the 2020-21 academic year.
“This one-time distribution aims to help families meet their children's food needs for 80 days. Food packages include the following products: buckwheat, lentils, pasta, rice, vegetable oil and wheat flour,” the message says.
Organization of the educational process in the context of COVID-19
Under the previously established rules, first-graders in Armenia went to school on September 14, and the academic year at other levels of general education started on September 15.
It is obligatory to wear masks in class, it is forbidden to hold mass events (morning children's events, movie screenings, sports events, entertainment, performances, etc.). Also, the extension and the activities of extracurricular groups organized by the school have been temporarily canceled. Schools are provided with hand sanitizers and classrooms are disinfected before or after school.
Autumn holidays in general educational institutions of Armenia were announced from October 15 to 29, and then extended until November 12.
According to the order established by the ministry, students in grades 1-4 and 12 study on a full-time basis, and students in grades 5-11 - remotely. -0-
