Armenia's birth rate down 5.4 percent, death rate falls by 9.5 percent

YEREVAN, July 7. /ARKA/. The birth rate in Armenia in the first five months of 2022 slashed by 5.4% compared to the same period of time in 2021, according to the numbers, released today by the National Statistical Committee (NSC).
It said some 13,581 babies were born during the reporting period, down from 14,351 newborns during the first five months of 2021.
However, when, compared to the same period of time in 2020, when 12,799 babies were born, the birth rate in the first 5 months of this year was up 6.1%.
Some 73 cases of stillbirths were recorded in the first 5 months of 2022, which is 12.2% less than in the same period of 2021 and 10.2% more than in the same period of 2020.
Overall, there were 12,800 recorded deaths in January-May 2022, a 9.5% decrease from the same period in 2021 and a 10% increase from the first five months of 2020.
More than half (55.5% or 7,108 people) died from diseases of the circulatory system, up 0.4% from the same period of 2021.
The second most spread cause of death were neoplasms (16.8% or 2,144 people, a decrease of 2.9%).
Other causes of death were respiratory diseases (9.3% or 1,193 people, up 12.7%), Covid-19 (5.3% or 682 people, down 67.3%) and digestive diseases (4.3% or 543 people, down 0.7%). -0--
