The birth rate in Armenia grew by 7.8% in the first three months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, according to the National Statistical Committee (NSC).

YEREVAN, May 5. /ARKA/. The birth rate in Armenia grew by 7.8% in the first three months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, according to the National Statistical Committee (NSC).

It said that 8,756 babies were born during the reporting period, up from 8,120 babies born in the first quarter of 2022.

Compared to the same time span of 2021, when 8,618 babies were born, the growth rate in the first quarter of 2023 was 1.6%

Some 95 stillbirths were recorded during the period in question, an increase of 8% over the same period in 2022 and 23.4% below the same period in 2021.

Some 6,763 deaths were reported in the first quarter of 2023, 21.3% less than in the same period of 2022 and 18.2% less than in the first three months of 2022.

Thus, the natural increase of the population in the first quarter of this year amounted to 1,993, against a natural decrease of 474 in the same period of 2022.

More than half of the deaths in the first quarter of 2023 (55.3% or 3,738 people) were caused by circulatory system diseases, 21.5% less than during the same period in 2022. The second most widespread cause of deaths were neoplasms (18.3% or 1,240 people, a decrease of 3%).

Other causes of death were respiratory diseases (10.1% or 686 people, a decrease of 20.2%), digestive diseases (4.9% or 333 people, a decrease of 0.3%), and external causes of morbidity and mortality (3.6% or 241 people, a decrease of 1.7%). -0-
