YEREVAN, August 10. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs will receive 12 million drams from the government to organize vacation and treatment for 100 veterans of Great Patriotic War (World War II).
The decision was reached heeding the veterans’ huge contribution to the War victory, as well as their age and health issues, Labor Minister Artem Asatryan said at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.
“Organizing a summer vacation for our veterans with the assistance of our State has become a nice tradition,” Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said.
As of now there are nearly 2,800 veterans of the Great Patriotic War in Armenia.
Armenia lost about 175,000 out of nearly 500,000 Armenian soldiers fighting against the Nazis in the Soviet army from 1941 to 1945. Throughout these years 106 Armenians were Heroes of the Soviet Union. Legendary pilot Nelson Stepanyan and Marshal of the Soviet Union Ivan Baghramyan were awarded this honorable title even twice. Moreover, Armenia had 27 Full Holders of Order of Glory.

The Armenian nation sent to the front six mechanized infantry divisions, and Taman 89th Division even reached Berlin. Nearly 100,000 Armenians of Diaspora participated in Resistance movement, and were fighting in the armies of the Allies. -0-
