Armenia’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs excludes further abuses in pension sphere
YEREVAN, October 2. /ARKA/. Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia Artem Asatryan told journalists Tuesday that infringements in pension sphere will not happen as long as he holds his position.

Commenting on the incident with a former head of Armenia’s State Fund of Social Insurance Vazgen Khachikyan, who had been detained while Asatryan was a deputy minister of labor and social affairs, Minister said that at that time the feedback between the Ministry and State Fund was low.

“Ministry would receive reports and announcements from the Fund only for six months, the information database was outdated and imperfect,” he added.

According to Asatryan, the new database will make it impossible for such infringements to happen, as the new system registers the whole information, and no individual violating the regulations will be able to make it invisible.

The prejudicial inquiry of abuse in pension sphere is still ongoing. Some 28 individuals are being interrogated.

In December 2010, a head of Armenia’s State Fund of Social Insurance (now it is named State Social Security Service) Vazgen Khachikyan was removed from his office by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

The official reasons for Prime Minister’s decision were not announced. However, many violations and abuses were detected in the Fund.
The investigation of Finance Ministry revealed a number of infringements, particularly 60,000 people who had already died or left the country continued getting pensions.

A criminal case was opened against Khachikyan. -0-
