Armenia’s permanent population slashes by 3,800 people in first quarter

Armenia’s permanent population has dwindled by 3,800 people in the first quarter of this year to 3 million and 6 thousand as of April 1, according to the latest numbers, released today by the National Statistical Service (NSS).

YEREVAN, April 30. / ARKA /. Armenia’s permanent population has dwindled by 3,800 people in the first quarter of this year to 3 million and 6 thousand as of April 1, according to the latest numbers, released today by the National Statistical Service (NSS). It said the urban population stood at 1,911,200 and the rural population stood at 1,095,600.
According to the National Statistical Service, the drop resulted from the so-called negative migration balance – the number of those who left the country was by 5,500 more than the number of those who arrived in Armenia plus the natural population growth of 1,700 people.
The number of children born in the first quarter of 2015 decreased by 1.9% when compared with the same period of 2014 falling to 9,452. The number of deaths has also decreased by 2.9% to 7,708 in the reporting period of time. The resulting natural population growth was 1,744 people (an increase of 2.7%).
According to border electronic management, some 947,300 people left and arrived in Armenia in the first three months of 2015 against 990,300 in the first quarter of 2014 (a decline of 4.3% ). More precisely, 458,824 arrived in the country (a 4.2% decline), and 488 473 left it (a 4.4% decline). M.V.-0-
