Armenia’s police receive 800 biometrical passport applications in 1.5 month

Deputy Chief of Armenia’s Police Artur Osikyan said the Police have received just 800 biometrical passports applications since the moment of the roll-out of ID-cards and biometrical passports in Armenia (June 1 of 2012).

YEREVAN, July 19. /ARKA/. Deputy Chief of Armenia’s Police Artur Osikyan said the Police have received just 800 biometrical passports applications since the moment of the roll-out of ID-cards and biometrical passports in Armenia (June 1 of 2012).
“Against our expectations, biometrical passports are not very popular with the Armenian citizens, we just received 800 applications in 1.5 month,” Osikyan said Thursday at the Cabinet meeting.
Residents of Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor can receive biometrical passports and ID cards since June 1. Other citizens will also receive these documents afterwards.
ID cards contain electronic database, special cryptographic keys, electronic signature and ID certificate.
Biometrical passport is valid for five years, and ID card- for 10 years. The passport, besides personal data and a picture, should also contain index fingerprints. ID cards besides personal data and a picture also contain electronic signature of a citizen. --0--
