Armenia will need $300 million to combat Covid-19

Armenian government has spent so far about 2.4 billion drams on measures to combat the COVID-19, Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan said on Thursday.
YEREVAN, May 21. /ARKA/. Armenian government has spent so far about 2.4 billion drams on measures to combat the COVID-19, Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan said on Thursday. He described the amount as 'catastrophically small,' saying according to various estimates, the country will need up to $300 million to implement all the necessary measures by the end of the year.
According to Torosyan, as of May 21, about 1.098 billion drams have been raised as donations to counter the spread of the infection, and another 2.015 billion drams have been added by the government.
“Another 1.42 billion drams will soon be received from the state budget. Thus, the total amount spent on the fight against coronavirus will be 4.45 billion drams,” he said.
According to him, of this amount, 464 million drams were spent on the renovation of medical centers, while the total amount of construction work amounted to 752 million drams.
Also, 1.6 billion drams have been earmarked for the acquisition of medical equipment, of which 492 million drams have already been spent, and 970 million drams are also expected to come from the government for these purposes, and 164 million drams have been allocated for organizing tenders.
Torosyan also emphasized that doctors directly involved in the treatment of coronavirus are given quite high salaries and bonuses. -0-
