Armenian government cuts work hours of school teachers
YEREVAN, October 5. /ARKA/. The Armenian government at a meeting on Thursday approved a decision on reducing the workload of schoolteachers.
According to Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan, teachers of grades 1-4 will work 18 hours a week instead of current 20 hours and teachers of grades 5-12 will work 20 hours instead of current 22.
According to the minister, as a result the salaries of teachers will rise by 20% and 10% respectively.
The decision also entails introduction of new standards that require teachers to change the grading system, instructional planning, and expand teaching methods.
The implementation of the decision will be phased in. Starting this past September new regulations are already in place for grades 3, 5 and 7. -0-
