YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. Armenian government is planning to increase pensions, social benefits and public sector employees’ salaries on January 1, 2014, Labor and Social Affairs Minister Artem Asatryan said on Tuesday. However, he refrained from indicating how much they will be increased.

“The midterm spending program will be approved within the next week, and after that it will become possible to speak about figures,” the minister said answering ARKA News Agency’s question.

He reminded journalists that the minimal salary will be raised up to AMD 45,000 on July 1.

Asked about whether the increased minimal salary will be adequate to low-income families’ expenses, especially taking into account the imminent rise in natural gas prices, Asatryan said that the main goal of the 30-percent increase of the salary is to solve low-wage-earning category of people.

He also stressed that AMD 45,000 is higher than the poverty line. ($1 – AMD 416.84). -0-
