YEREVAN, February 9. /ARKA/. A number of amendments to the law "On Military Service," better known as the law on draft evaders, will come into force in Armenia starting February 12.

According to the new wording of the law, persons who have obtained Armenian citizenship upon reaching the age of 27 but are younger than 37 and who have completed less than 12 months of compulsory service in another country or less than 18 months of alternative service can be drafted for compulsory service in Armenia.

This paragraph of the law also notes that new citizens of Armenia who have not completed compulsory or alternative service in the armed forces of another country before their 37th birthday may be called up for service.

According to the amendments, this category of citizens can be called up for compulsory service for a period of 12 months. The law stipulates that they can be exempted from service if they pay an amount of 2.5 million drams to the state budget. ($1 - 404.47 drams) -0-
