YEREVAN, November 14. /ARKA/. Armenian National Academy of Sciences will mark its 70th anniversary by publishing special booklets and opening an exhibition, the academy’s press office reported today. 

The National Academy of Sciences (before 1993 the Academy of Sciences) started functioning on November 10, 1943. 

One of its founders and its first president was Iosif Orbeli, a member of the Soviet Union’s Academy of Sciences. 

Viktor Hambardzumyan was the academy president from 1947 to 1993. His successor was Fadey Sargsyan from 1993 to 2006, when the presidency went to Radik Martirosyan. 

The National Academy comprises 34 scientific institutes and various establishments. -0-
