Armenian NSS reveals theft of $665,500 by chief accountant of medical center

YEREVAN, February 2. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Security Service (NSS) has launched a criminal case that involves the chief accountant of the National Center for Infectious Diseases who is accused of embezzlement.
The NSS said the investigation revealed that the chief accountant stolen 345.3 million drams (about $665,500) from July 2019 to December 2020 by transferring this amount to his accounts with Ameriabank and Inecobank, after which, during the same period, he cashed the indicated amounts and used them for personal interests.
The chief accountant admitted his guilt, recovered part of the damage, and also expressed his readiness to fully restore it.
According to NSS, the investigation of the criminal case continues, active criminal and judicial measures are being carried out to identify the full circle of persons involved in the corruption scheme.
A person suspected or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code by a court verdict that has entered into legal force. -0-
