Armenian parliament allows citizens to carry arms for self-defense

YEREVAN, January 16. /ARKA/. The Armenian Parliament has approved today in the second and final reading a set of amendments to the law "On Regulation of Arms Turnover" allowing citizens to carry arms for self-defense.
After the amendments come into force, citizens will have the right to carry firearms subject to a number of requirements. In particular, they will have to pass a mental stability test and obtain a license.
Vilen Gabrielyan, an MP from the ruling Civil Contract party who authored the amednments noted that the amendments ban use of gas cans and other irritating or aerosolizing means by minors.
Citizens who serve or have served in law enforcement agencies, or who have been on compulsory military service for 5 years, which was not completed ahead of schedule, are exempted from practical examinations for the possession of weapons.
Gabrielyan said that until June 1, 2025, those who have award weapons must submit to the police medical certificates and pass the exam, otherwise their weapons will be hollowed out. -0-
