Brucellosis found in cattle in Kotayk region of Armenia

Thirty-eight head were found with brucellosis in Dzoraghbyur village of Kotayk province, the state food safety service of Armenia reported referring to survey results.

YEREVAN, March 4. /ARKA/. Thirty-eight head were found with brucellosis in Dzoraghbyur village of Kotayk province, the state food safety service of Armenia reported referring to survey results.
Diseased animals are currently killed as required by the sanitary norms, according to the report.
Apart from this, the food safety service requested the ministry of health to provide laboratory surveillance to people who had close contact with diseased animals.
Sanitary and anti-epidemic measures are under way.
Human brucellosis cases were recorded in Armenia in winter and summer 2013.
Brucellosis is a highly contagious zoonosis caused by ingestion of unsterilized milk or meat from infected animals or close contact with their secretions. Transmission from human to human is rare but possible. –0--
