YEREVAN, March 20. /ARKA/. Armenia plans to open the Margara checkpoint on the Armenian-Turkish border from March 21 to March 31, 2025 to transport humanitarian aid to Syria by land through the territory of Turkey, according to a decision made at the government session on Thursday.

The government said an opportunity will be created for faster and less costly transportation of humanitarian goods to Syria on behalf of Armenia. It is mentioned that assistance will be provided to Armenian communities in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, which are in danger.

Armenian authorities have repeatedly stated that the Margara checkpoint on the Armenian side has been repaired and made ready. Regarding the opening the border, Yerevan expects a reciprocal step from its Turkish partners.

Turkey shut down the common border in 1993, in a show of solidarity with Azerbaijan, which was locked in a conflict with Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
