Council of experts to overview military personnel rights

A council of experts set up by Armenia’s human rights defender will be overseeing all the issues relating to rights of military personnel.

YEREVAN, January 9. /ARKA/. A council of experts set up by Armenia’s human rights defender will be overseeing all the issues relating to rights of military personnel.
According to a press release, issued today by the Office of the Human Rights Defender, the new body is composed of representatives of non-governmental organizations dealing with the protection of the rights of servicemen, as well as of independent experts, including a sociologist, a psychologist and a lawyer. The council also includes a serviceman’s family member.
"The purpose of the council of experts is to raise questions concerning the protection of the rights of conscripts and military personnel and to submit proposals for their solutions. This body can initiate legislative changes concerning military service and military personnel, as well as provide expert opinions on certain issues," says the press release. -0-
