Electric buses, new depot, and metro modernization: Yerevan Municipality discussed projects with ADB

YEREVAN, March 19. /ARKA/. Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan and the Asian Development Bank delegation led by ADB Director General for Central and West Asia Yevgeny Zhukov discussed on Monday the status of jointly implemented projects noting the effective cooperation between Yerevan Municipality and ADB.

Avinyan described the impressive package of new projects with ADB as an important investment in the prosperous and sustainable future of the city through infrastructure modernization and green initiatives.

“ADB support helps us formulate competent and viable investment programs and resolve financing issues,” Mayor Avinyan emphasized.

In turn, Zhukov emphasized that Yerevan Municipality is a reliable partner of the bank and is ready to support the implementation of new projects.

The parties discussed the implementation of the Investment Program for Sustainable Urban Development of Yerevan and assured that, despite certain deviations from the originally planned deadlines, every effort will be made to begin construction of the Isakov-Arshakunyats interchange this year.

Yerevan's priorities were outlined - the purchase of 250 new electric buses and the reconstruction of the depot, the creation of a 230-hectare forest park in the Dalma Gardens, the reconstruction of Noragyugh, the modernization of the Yerevan Metro, the construction of a section of the Tbilisi-Yeghvard road and others.

The Yerevan Urban Development Investment Program worth 60 million euros will be implemented at the expense of ADB loan funds for a period of 17 years, with an interest rate of 1.3%. ]

The program envisages the construction of a new transport hub between Isakov and Arshakunyats Avenues, which will connect 3 administrative districts of Yerevan and significantly reduce traffic jams on the city's roads.

A bridge will also be built across the Hrazdan River. Over nearly 20 years of cooperation with Armenia, the Asian Development Bank has invested more than US$1.9 billion in the country, supporting the government’s priorities in transport, public sector management, finance, energy, water supply and other urban infrastructure.-0-
