YEREVAN, September 18. /ARKA/.  The European Court of Human Rights has mentioned the date of issuing the first two decisions on suits filed over March 1, 2008 violent events in Yerevan – Saghtelyan versus Armenia and Gaspari versus Armenia, Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Time) reports.

These cases are connected with the violence applied against protesters in Freedom Square in Yerevan in a clear breach of the Constitution. Mushegh Saghatelyan then was beaten severely.

His lawyer says if even one of such suits is satisfied, it will set a precedent.
She is also convinced that the ad hoc committee set up for investigating March violence is able to take unbiased stance on the matter and give comprehensive consideration to what happened in March, when protests broke after the presidential election.

After the 2008 presidential election, Armenian opposition headed by the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who lost the then race for presidency, staged protests saying the election had been fraudulent and the results had been rigged. The rallies ended in clashes between protesters and law enforcements.

As a result, ten were killed and 200 injured. Many were arrested. --0----
