YEREVAN, February 27. /ARKA/. The financial situation of Armenian servicemen responsible for non-combat tasks will improve, Deputy Defense Minister Karen Brutyan said on Tuesday.

According to him, the issue is mainly about servicemen, such as lawyers, employees of military (conscription) commissariats, who are considered servicemen but are not obliged to participate in combat operations.

As of now, he said, some 1,700 such personnel could be beneficiaries of the planned improvement after passing the certification.

"Nevertheless, when passing the certification, the salary increase will be in a smaller amount than that of servicemen who are obliged to participate in combat operations," Brutyan said at a parliamentary session while presenting a package of bills on amending the Law on Military Service and Status of Servicemen and amendments to related laws.

Seyran Ohanyan, head of the opositional Armenia bloc and former defense minister, supported the idea of certification. However, in his opinion, it is necessary only for determining the professional suitability of servicemen and their suitability for their positions.

Ohanyan considers it inadmissible to determine the amount of allowances based on the results of certification because sSuch an approach, in his opinion, is erroneous and unfair. --0--
