Former community head in Armenia charged with embezzlement

The Armenian Investigation Committee has opened a criminal case against the former head of one of Aragatsotn province’s communities, who was in office from 2015 to 2017.

YEREVAN, November 28. /ARKA/. The Armenian Investigation Committee has opened a criminal case against the former head of one of Aragatsotn province’s communities, who was in office from 2015 to 2017.
The head of the Karmrashen community is charged with gross embezzlement.
It has become known from a preliminary enquiry that he had pocketed around USD 30,000.
It has also become known that the official, abusing his powers, took AMD 8,843,000 from the
community’s budget for, as he said, providing assistance to low-income families, purchasing diesel to heat the community administration’s building and repairing constructions.
However, financial assistance has not been provided, the building has not been heated with diesel fuel and the repair has not been carried out.
Besides, the former head of the community has employed two persons, who never visited the office, but AMD 5.5 million has been allocated from the community budget for paying their salaries.
