Iran respects Armenian community’s religion and traditions, historian says

A historian and cartographer Ruben Galichyan commended today the Iranian government and the Iranian society for respecting the traditions and religion of the Armenian community,

YEREVAN, August 18. / ARKA /. A historian and cartographer Ruben Galichyan commended today the Iranian government and the Iranian society for respecting the traditions and religion of the Armenian community,
"The Armenian community in Iran is protected by law. It has two representatives in the Iranian parliament. Iranians respect our religious canons and traditions. We are free to follow our laws, which differ from Iranian ones,” said Galichyan.
Galichyan recalled also that the bridge on the Araks River, which connects the two countries, was built on proceeds raised by the Armenian community of Iran.
Iran has a 70 thousand–strong Armenian community, the largest Christian community in the country of 80 million and one of the largest Armenian communities in Muslim countries. Armenians in Iran run tens of churches, cultural and athletic organizations-- 0--
