YEREVAN, November 18. /ARKA/. The list of servicemen reported missing after the war in Artsakh is shrinking , Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan said today when speaking in parliament.

"The list of missing servicemen  is currently on a downward trend, because as a result of clarifications, it turns out that there are a lot of people in it who are safe and sound," he said.

Tonoyan said a commission has been created by the Ministry of Defense that is working closely with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as with the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

He said also that the Ministry of Defense  came up with an initiative for legislative changes in connection with social support for the families of the missing soldiers. According to him, there will also be certain amendments regarding the use of the Military Insurance Fund and the state budget.

Health Minister Arsen Torosyan said to date the death of 2,425 Armenian soldiers in the Artsakh war  has been confirmed.
He said that many dead servicemen have undergone  forensic medical examinations. 'This is a difficult procedure, which is carried out with the bodies of citizens of both Armenia and Artsakh. At the same time, about 250 bodies of them have not been identified,” Torosyan told journalists in the parliament.

He said the emotional shock that everyone experienced in recent days against the background of the current events will gradually transform into the strength and energy  with which the country needs to withstand both regional and global challenges.

On November 9, the leaders of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the sides stopped at their positions; the town of Shushi, Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin regions pass over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of the 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.

A Russian peacekeeping contingent is deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are being exchanged ($1 - 497.38 drams). -0-
