YEREVAN, July 31. /ARKA/. Yerevan may celebrate its 2800-th anniversary with a new mayor, Zhoghovurd reports.
The city mayorship became vacant after Taron Margaryan resigned as mayor on July 9.
The election of a new mayor was scheduled for July 16, but the number of the city council members at that session was not enough to conduct the election.
According to the newspaper, it will be possible to elect a new city council on September 16 or 23, and
Zara Batoyan, a member of the city council who is a member of the Civil Contract party, couldn’t say for sure when the election will take place, but she expressed confidence that Yerevan will celebrate its 2800-th birthday with a new mayor.
This means that parties have little time for making necessary preparations for the election and presenting properly their programs. -0---
