Nineteen Armenian customs officers charged with bribery

Nineteen employees of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee have been charged with bribery, the Special Investigation Service (SIS) reported today.

YEREVAN, October 26 /ARKA/. Nineteen employees of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee have been charged with bribery, the Special Investigation Service (SIS) reported today.
It said in a statement that the preliminary investigation revealed that a senior customs officer, identified as V.O. aided by another customs officer, identified as A.M., received bribes from more than ten citizens for the illegal import of fruits, vegetables, household and other goods from August to December 2017.
According to the indictment, V.O. and A.M. established close relations with the residents of the village of Bagratashen, located near the border with Georgia, who imported goods from Georgia. In exchange for bribes, the residents of the village imported various goods into Armenia without customs clearance.
SIS said V.O. is charged with 18 incidents of bribe taking under part 2 of Article 311. A.M. is charged with part 1 of Article 313 (bribery mediation) of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
Seventeen other 17 customs officers are also charged with bribery and bribery mediation under part 1 of Article 312 (bribery) and part 1 of Article 38-312 (complicity in bribery) of the Criminal Code. SIS said the preliminary investigation in respect of these officers is completed. The case with the indictment was handed to the prosecutor for sending to court. -0-
